I was recently in VA to shoot a wedding (might post some of those images once I finish going through them) I stayed with my sister, who happens to be a frequent model of mine. The day before the wedding she requested that I shoot some photos of her becuse according to her, she looked cute that day. Anyway, we stepped outside and I did a quick 5 minute photo shoot. Here is the best of them.
shot mostly natural light, threw a little fill flash in from the left.
Nathan said I should hold off on posting so that there could be some space between posts. But with the volume (and quality) that people are posting here, I just cannot wait anymore. I was in Costa Rica for a week in May, and it was amazing, this is one of my favorite shots from the trip.

a random Costa Rican boy playing on the beach… pura vida
So, I know not a lot of other members of The Obscura are posting wedding images, but I do a lot of weddings, so I will be going against the grain a bit and posting some wedding photos. I shot a wedding this most recent Saturday in West Paterson, NJ. We got some extra time with the bride so we were able to do some awesome portraits of her. Here are a couple of my favorites.

I love using flashes, but strangely enough, all of these were comepletely natural light. Some times you have to know when to turn the flash off too
The Obscura is an interesting place right now, I think a lot of us are feeling it out. Figuring out what to post, how often to post, what to talk about. One thing I really like about it is the freedom it gives me. I shoot a lot of weddings for work. Definitely a different kind of photography than you will see here. There are certain aspects of my photography that I would not feel comfortable showing prospective clients… say a coat hanger abortion in a a bathtub. The Obscura gives me a chance to show some of that other work that I do, that I feel is a little more personl to me. Hopefully one day these two paths of my photography can cross and possibly join… maybe a shot of a bride getting a coat hanger abortion? Anyway, I wanted to post this shot that I took on a recent trip to Upstate, NY where I grew up.

If you ever make it to Wolcott NY, and need a cheap place to do crystal meth, this is your place.
Canon 40D, 17-55 f/2.8, at 17 and 2.8 Straight out of camera… HA HA believe that?
So, I was kinda bored today, and decided to go through some old photos, look at some stuff with fresh eyes, see if there were anything I missed. I have found one of my best photos ever that way, skipped over it on the first edit. I found this image I made for a class a couple years ago. This is not the one I chose to submit, but I think it’s the best of the group. This offended a bunch of people, I still think it’s hilarious.

The blood was corn syrup and food coloring… getting the right level of darkness was the hardest part.
Make sure you don’t miss the coat hanger… it’s very important to the story.
After looking at the quality of the photography being posted here, I realize I am definitely going to have to step up my game…
I was recently pretty happy to get to shoot at this location, I’ve been driving by it for about two months now and really wanted to shoot there. Only got about an hour in, so I definitely expect to go back and shoot there again, lots of possibilities. Here are my favorites from my short, but I think productive shoot.

I’ve shot my fair share of weddings… without fail, every wedding in NJ I have been to Bon Jovi gets played, moreover the song that’s played is always “Livin on a Prayer” Now, I’m no Bon Jovi fan but I’m not from Jersey. This song always gets quite the reaction… this was by far the best I’ve ever seen. I was laughing so hard I was lucky that these are in focus…

Bon Jovi + Drunk Jersey Naitives = photographic gold
shot @ f/2.8, 1/15th of a sec. drag the shutter… be there
