Ms. Jess Hawk

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I’ve recently had the opportunity to photograph Ms. Jess Hawk. Armed with a 50 f/1.4, a set of Alien Bees, soft boxes and honeycombs, I, with my faithful side kick, Fat Tom, went to work. The first image was with two comically large, ridiculously clumsy, undoubtedly overkill, 47″ Octoboxes. The strobe to the camera’s left, was parallel to the model, but aimed at the wall behind her. The strobe to the model’s left, was at a 45° angle, located mid range between Jess and I. The second and third were both contrived by carefully placing narrowly honeycombed grids on two strobes, and strategically aiming them.

Ornament

The following image is from Moutheater’s upcoming LP on Thrashed! Records, entitled “Ornament”. With Odin’s guidance, the subject was discovered atop the roof of the ballet studio where the album was being recorded. The corpse was then wrapped in my t-shirt, and thrown in a freezer for the next day. With one Alien Bee armed with a 10° honeycomb raised to the crest of a 13 foot stand, the beloved wife of the drummer graciously held the frozen cadaver.
